Renewable Energy Fleet

Blue Sun Biodiesel logo

At High Noon Solar, we believe every action we decide to take has an impact on the quality of our lives and our community members’ lives. That’s why we have decided to invest in a renewable energy fleet of installation and sales vehicles. These vehicles run on renewable, alternative forms of energy instead of gasoline or traditional diesel. Below are the vehicles that make up our renewable energy vehicle fleet.

Our two primary trucks used for installation of solar electric and solar thermal systems are traditional Dodge diesels. However, these diesel pickups are run on Blue Sun Biodiesel. Montrose Western Petroleum provides the Blue Sun Biodiesel to High Noon Solar. Here in Western Colorado we can use B20 (20% biodiesel and 80% traditional diesel) in winter and B100 (100% biodiesel) in summer. Using diesel made from plant material rather than petroleum based diesel reduces our dependence on foreign oil and keeps fewer pollutants from entering the atmosphere.

Electric VehicleOur primary sales call vehicle is a 2000 Ford Ranger, which is all electric. Ford Motor Company actually produced about 1,500 of these all electric pickups in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Deciding the vehicles were a mistake to make, Ford demanded the Rangers back from the people leasing them and began to crush them. Ford crushed about 1,100 of the perfectly usable vehicles before people began to stand in vigil in opposition to their choice. 400 vehicles were saved from being crushed and this Ford Ranger is one of them. It is charged by the solar electric system which also feeds High Noon Solar’s office and workshop space. The Ranger gets about 60 miles to each charge.
